Duck Donuts Coming to Richmond – Richmond.com: Food Drink
Why, why why would you put yourself right across the street from the one Krispey Kreme in town? That to me is suicide because folks love KK down here so much that I don’t know if Duck Donuts can beat them…even if the product is superior (which doesn’t take much to beat KK to be honest. Their donuts are more air then dough anyway).

Snow Again
Yesterday we got another 6″ of snow and ice, which brings up our total for the year to almost 30″. Is is spring yet? This is getting old as hell to be honest. And no, I didn’t take any pictures of it this time because I just didn’t feel like it. Instead I spent the time ranking up in Scarlet Blade and writing.
And they’re calling for me in another day or so.
The Return of Eugenics and Why It’s a Bad Thing
Today I read an article in Bloomberg about designer children. In this case they were combining the DNA of one man and two women to make a “superior and healthier” child. Well, the reeks of eugenics and let me explain why.
Back in the 1920’s, a movement began called ‘eugenics’ and it had a simple belief: that a superior human being could be bred. This went hand-in-hand with scientific racism, where the scientists tried to say that based off the shape of a person’s head, their skin color, etc could determine their intelligence. It was this belief, and the eugenics idea of breeding the superior person that led to the rise of the Nazis.
Thousands of people were deemed to be unfit to reproduce under eugenics and were either forcibly sterilized or coerced into doing it voluntarily. In fact, Margaret Sanger (Creator of Planned Parenthood) was a major eugenics supporter. In their minds, Asians, Blacks, Native Americans were all inferior and everything was done to prevent them from having children-all in the name of science of course.
This is why I’m bothered by this article because it’s bringing this issue back to the front again. The last time it came to the front we had the holocaust. And why was that? Because Hitler and many of his followers in the high ranks of the Nazi Party were all eugenics supporters, which lead to them killing millions of Jews. Do we want to do this again?
In the novel “A Brave New World,” this is the basis of the dystopian future. In the novel, people were separated by class depending on their DNA/Intelligence and then assigned jobs. I can see that coming out of this too.
And people wonder why I and many writers too, write dystopian futures. It’s because we’re headed towards one at warp speed and have zero intention of slowing down any either.

Snow Storm Pics
It’s here!
A Richmond Tradition
The Calm before the Storm
As I look out of the sunset, it’s hard to believe that by this time tomorrow I’ll be getting dumped on with snow. Things look so peaceful and carefree that you’d almost think it was just another sunset.
Now, we have modern weather forecasting to keep an eye on things, but what about our ancestors? They’d’ve gone to bed tonight thinking nothing about tomorrow, only to have the snow storm suddenly appear. I can’t help but think about the dismay, fear and worry that they had in being able to make it through the winter and its storms.
Better yet, what about our friends to the south who deal with hurricanes? I wonder how many of them struck over the years, before we had satellites and other means of detecting them, and killed thousands because there was no warning.
Makes one appreciate the technology we have now doesn’t it? And imagine: just one hundred years ago what we take for granted would’ve been in a science fiction novel.
Frosty the Snowman!
Well, the forecasted amount of snow continues to go up for tomorrow into Thursday. While this time it’s supposed to start during the day (Yay!) so I can see it, it will cause a headache for the new graphics card that will arrive tomorrow for my desktop computer. Oh, well, I guess you can’t win everything.
Snow is pretty and I have kind of wanted one big snowstorm this year to consider it winter and looks like I’ll get it. After this it can warm up to spring and I’ll be one happy little writer. So…bring it on!
I think I’m going to try to get pictures of it with my camera and I’ll try to post them if I have juice. Hopefully the weather for the rest of you guys will be good. J
