The Bankruptcy of Detroit

I’ve been following that sad state of affairs with great interest. Why? Because it’s the ultimate fate of our country due to the debt we have-but that’s neither here nor there. What bothered me were statements made on the radio today.

This afternoon I had nothing to do so I was on my way home and for the first time in a while, I turned the radio on. A nationally syndicated blow hard was on and he spoke about the Detroit deal. The reasons for the bankruptcy in his mind were ‘the unions’ and ‘liberalism.’ While I do think making people dependent on the system, and then taking money from others to pay to the dependent ones, is morally wrong, that’s not the only reason for the destruction of Mo-town.

Nor were the unions totally to blame either. Big Management wants to make sure they get every damn dime they can and that’s how it is. And if we didn’t have unions, then we’d all be slaves to the company. The 40 hr work week, vacations, labor laws and benefits all came about in the USA due to the unions, so they’ve done many things to help out the worker.

With that said, here’s the rub. Both parties helped cripple the auto industry. Do you really think it costs 50k to build a 4×4 F-150? Seriously, that’s so overpriced it isn’t funny. Why? Because the company is going to make sure management (specifically the upper echelon) gets their outrageous pay and then uses the ‘good old boy’ network to make sure their buddies do too. All these CEO’s are on other company’s Board of Directors so it becomes ‘you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours.’ “You give me thirty million here and I’ll vote to give it to you at your company.” What a fucking racket. However, do Union workers need $40 per hour to build cars? No, but despite all that is said on the right, the figures that the CEO’s, and the other members of upper management, are getting is causing far more harm than the unions. So, look at the figures of their pay and think about whenever they say the ‘unions are killing us on labor cost.’ I’ll bet you 20 bucks they’re mad because it’d cut into their big ass paychecks, which is why they’re angry.

Now look at those figures and tell me it’s the unions fault! I’m sorry, talk radio, but the 1%, both in business and politics/government, are getting richer off our backs and we’re not seeing a damn dime of it really. Looks like it’s time for a union renaissance.

‘Bash mobs’ sweep through Southern California

This shit’s getting old. And people wonder why the rest of the world considers the US to be a laughingstock. When a small minority of a population can hold the majority hostage, then you’ve got problems. Suffice to say, I am not amused.

Per the LA Times

Organized “bash mob” crime rampages of roving groups attacking innocent people and businesses have been striking cities around the United States. Law enforcement agencies in Southern California have reported few similar problems — until now.

In the last several days, there have been several reports of such group crime waves in South L.A., Hollywood, San Bernardino and Victorville. Long Beach police are bracing for another one Friday.

These so-called bash mobs of “flash mob” crime waves are organized through social media and have been a problem in Chicago, Philadelphia and Washington. In April, 28 Chicago youths were arrested on suspicion of attacking pedestrians along the city’s famed Magnificent Mile. Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn signed legislation in May enacting stiffer penalties for people who text or use social media to organize mob attacks.

Long Beach police warned in a statement that participants could face severe penalties.

“The mere participation in such an event can result in felony charges including conspiracy, and are punishable by imprisonment in the state prison,” according to the statement.

Police said they feared bash mob organizers planned to hit Long Beach at 2 p.m.

Long Beach experienced such a gathering July 9, when more than 100 people descended on stretches of downtown in an organized, sudden crime rampage.

On Monday, a group of unruly young people broke off from hundreds gathered for a Trayvon Martin prayer vigil and rushed into a Wal-Mart on Crenshaw Boulevard, where they tossed merchandise and tried to break into a jewelry display case.

In Hollywood on Tuesday night, a flash mob of thieves rushed down Hollywood Boulevard, stealing phones, knocking over tourists and vandalizing shops, according to police, who said it may have been related to the George Zimmerman verdict. Twelve people — 11 juveniles and one 18-year-old — were arrested on suspicion of robbery.

On Wednesday night in Victorville, authorities arrested 17 people after a group allegedly tried to force its way into the Mall of Victor Valley.

This is troubling to say the least. Hello 1930’s Weimar Republic. From the monetizing of debt to the actions of DC, it all follows the same pattern. As a person who values freedom of speech, this is frightening.

One More Example that America is in Trouble

There have been plenty of decisions, legal and politically, I do not agree with, yet I haven’t rioted and violently protested them. The very fact that some segments of American society feel that rioting, and intimidation, is the answer to everything shows how far we as a society have fallen. In fact, it’s more indicative of how much western society as a whole has rotted out.

I shook my head continuously during the Zimmerman trial at the tweets and intimidation threats made during it. As an outside observer, it proved to be so counterproductive. In fact, all it’s done is continue to create racial strife in this country, and I blame both the media and the Obama administration more than the people on the street.

Why?

The media has, and continues to do so, stirred up the pot on this issue from day one. Once it appeared that Zimmerman would walk, they then started to fan the flames to get riots, etc etc started. Throw in the “If I had a son….” comment from President Obama, and there’s be a perfect storm created to try to tear the country apart.

And what gets me is the people pushing all this want to change the current system to a progressive lead one that reduces the rights each person has. There was a shocking video of people who were willing to sign a petition the eliminate the Bill of Rights. What the hell? Don’t these idiots know they’re slitting their own throats? I guess not..
